Children in Devizes loved the Charlie Austin Football School Summer Camp

From the 7-9th August we welcomed over 60 children down each day to our home at Green Lane, Devizes for a summer camp with the Charlie Austin Football School. The event was a massive success and before you ask, yes on the final day, Charlie Austin himself turned up to say hi to all the children.

There were children of all ages from 6 through to 12 years. From day one, at the start until the last minute on the last day, there was excitement all around. Although the first day was a little warm, the weather was perfect for the whole event which really helped with these young football loving superstars. Using methods developed over a number of years, the children were not only having fun, but also learning skills while to them they were just "playing a match". There is a huge amount of social development to be gained as well as football skills in this style of play.

On the final day, during tournament day, Charlie Austin managed to get down at about 11.30am, accompanied by his three children. It didn't take long for two of them to get involved and start playing with all the other children. Charlie made and effort to be available for a personal photo with every single child there as well as the group photos. He also signed everything the children put in front him. A few of the players were really star struck and too embarrassed to go up to him, but after a little encouragement, they made it.

Charlie was impressed with what we had achieved at this summer camp. "Normally you only get the younger kids, but you have a nice range with quite a few older ones as well", said Charlie. Not only was this the busiest camp run so far by the Charlie Austin Football School, but also had the widest range of children. This is testament to not only the hard work the club have put in to promoting the event, but also the enthusiasm of the local youth in football.

Big thanks has to go to Steve Hooper of Inclusion Coaching for pulling the event together. We also need to thank Charlie Austin for making this a real event to remember for the children. Finally, we need to thank the children for coming and you, the parents for bringing them.
