Well, what a game this was for Bishops Cannings. It took a week of organising to get it on, with a late call to shift it to a Friday night. Many thanks to the league and opposition who were very helpful with this as well.
So we picked our squad of 16, with a couple of players unlucky to miss out - and still a few unavailable! Final 11 sorted and ready for kick off.
It was a good game from the off. Both teams breaking away and getting chances. However, it was Heytesbury who broke the deadlock on 25 minutes, with Bishops conceding from another set piece!
However, as we have shown all pre season, our heads don't drop. We kept playing with Luke, Ant and Szymon bossing midfield. In the 35th minute we got our break, Ant picked up the ball on the right hand side, launching a great cross straight on to Aaron Chivers head. He doesn't miss those opportunities, 1-1 and game on.
This really brought the crowd to life as well. The support was good and getting louder as we got better. And it was only a few minutes later that this paid off. Our superstar Szymon (He really is only just 16!!!) weaved through a couple of their players and struck the ball in from just outside the box. Wait a minute, we are 2-1 up!!!!!
We kept going and going from that, although their was a blow losing our midfield anchor, skipper Luke, coming off with a groin strain. However, this meant that crowd favourite, striker Brad Abrey was brought into the fray.
Half time and we are 2-1 up. Not a position we have been used to in pre-season.
Second half was another good competitive battle. They were pushing for an equaliser and we were starting to tire. Man of the Match Jack Prangle pulling off some stunning saves to keep us in the game.
We were very much playing a counter attacking game, particularyl with Szymon, Leo and Bradley looking to break away whenever we had the ball. Substitutions made to help assist the tired legs. All coming on and doing their job.
Their onslaught started to take its toll on them too, with the last 15 minutes we started to flourish and with 5 minutes of the game to go Szymon had a breakaway, again taking on a couple of players and sprinting clear. With the option of the cross he took the shot on an pinged it in the bottom corner.
It was such a good game, great opposition and I cannot stress how much of buzz their was in the crowd - hopefully we will get that every week.
Bring on The Lodge next week
